On a regular basis Donut takes all the members of a specified Slack channel, puts them together into groups, and then sends a DM to each of member encouraging them to meet for coffee, lunch, or donuts. (Or a virtual coffee over video chat if they’re in different locations.)
How does Donut pick who gets introduced?
Donut tries to introduce people who don't frequently interact with each other, which it determines by looking at how many of the same channels people are in. It then introduces people who aren't in a lot of channels together. Donut also keeps track of who it has introduced in the past so that it can avoid repeats. Donut doesn't look at any channel content, messages, or message data to pick the individuals to introduce to each other.
How often does Donut introduce people?
You can choose to have Donut intros every week, every other week, or every four weeks. You can view or change the frequency in your team’s settings on donut.ai. We recommend starting with biweekly intros and adjusting from there if that’s too frequent or not frequent enough for your team.
What time do the intros happen?
You can configure the time zone for your team at donut.ai.
If there are participants in different time zones, we recommend either setting it to match your company’s HQ time zone, or, if possible, choosing a time zone so that the 10 a.m. intros will happen during everyone’s work day.
Can we introduce groups of people larger than two?
Yes! Once you've installed Donut on your Slack workspace and configured your channel to do Intros, just log in at app.donut.ai using your Slack credentials.
Hit the gear icon on the channel name you'd like to update and navigate to the "advanced" tab of the settings (near the top). You'll be able to change the group size from there, as well as explore our other advanced features. These settings require an upgrade to our Standard plan.
