Team Pulse is an AI-powered feature in the Donut dashboard that helps admins understand the communication health of their Slack channels where Donut is installed. It provides insights into participation and sentiment so you can quickly assess team engagement and collaboration trends.

Note: Only Donut Account Admins and Account Owners can access Team Pulse. If you’re unsure who has these roles or want to learn more about permissions, see: Admins Types & Permissions

What data does Team Pulse use?

Team Pulse analyzes activity in Slack channels where Donut is installed. It looks at signals such as:

  • Participation patterns across channels

  • Responsiveness and interaction in conversations

  • Sentiment trends in communication

These signals are used to generate high-level insights into communication health.

What insights does Team Pulse provide?

Team Pulse surfaces two primary signals:

Participation measures how actively people contribute to conversations in a channel. This includes:

  • Message frequency

  • Responsiveness to others

  • Overall interaction patterns

Higher participation generally indicates active collaboration, while lower participation may signal less engagement.

Sentiment reflects the emotional tone of conversations. It is categorized as:

  • Positive

  • Neutral

  • Negative

This helps you understand whether conversations are supportive and engaged, or if there may be signs of frustration or disengagement.

Additional insights

Team Pulse also includes:

  • AI-generated summaries
Summaries provide a high-level overview of communication patterns across your Donut channels.

  • Weekly Pulse recaps
Weekly summaries highlight recent activity so you can stay up to date without reading every message.

  • Trend charts
Visualizations show changes in participation and sentiment over time (up to ~6 months), helping you identify patterns and shifts.

  • Channel-level insights
Insights are organized by channel, allowing you to compare engagement across different teams or topics.
