The more people you invite to your pairings channel, the bigger the opportunity to increase communication and collaboration team-wide.
Stuck on how to do it? We've compiled some suggestions to make it easy, whether you'd prefer to invite by Slack, by email, or both.
Subject: get to know each other over coffee!
We're rolling out a coffee buddy program over Slack, and you're invited to participate!
What is it?
We have a friendly new bot named Donut that will be setting you up for coffee dates with teammates. It's a great opportunity to get to know each other better.
Donut sends intros via Slack on Mondays. If you're in the same office, you can grab coffee, tea, or even lunch together. If you're in different offices, set up a time to Hangout, FaceTime, or Skype.
How do I join the coffee buddy program?
- If you're not already on Slack, let me know and I'll get you set up.
- Log in @team-name.slack.com
- Select "Channels" and find #coffee-buddies on the list. Once you preview it, click "Join Channel."
If you're going on vacation or need to pause pairings for a week, simply leave the room, and you can rejoin when you're back!
Looking forward to getting ️, 🍩 or 🍔 soon!
Subject: Get to know each other IRL
What's up team?
As we expand across land masses and oceans, the effects of scale and distance undoubtedly present some new challenges. Among those: Getting to know and communicating well with your teammates.
While we always encourage those serendipitous "hellos" in the hallways or random reach outs to colleagues in other offices, we're excited to introduce a tool that will help make those introductions less...err...awkward.
Donut is a friendly lil Slack bot that will introduce you to a coworker every Monday. You're welcome to go for a stroll, grab a cup of ️, or have a good old-fashioned Skype sesh—anything that gets you talking.
Ready to get started?
- Search our Slack channels for #YAYFRIENDS and join it.
- Every Monday you'll receive a DM introducing you to a new colleague.
- If you'd like to opt out or snooze intros for any reason (like you're taking advantage of our flexible vacation policy), just leave #YAYFRIENDS. You can rejoin it when you're ready to receive another pairing.
- That's it!
YAY for friends!
We're trying out a new Slack bot named Donut that will randomly assign lunch buddies every Monday. All you need to do is join the #lunch-buds channel.
##The Whole Shebang
Since we've grown so much lately, walking into the lunch room can be intimidating. We've always set up lunch buddies for new hires, but not-so-new teammates have been wanting a way to do this past their first week. Here it is!
###Woohoo! I want in.
Find the #lunch-buds channel and join it. Every Monday you'll randomly be paired with a new lunch buddy via DM. Donut finds teammates that don't often interact via Slack and pairs them, so you'll have a chance to meet someone totally new, or get to know teammates better.
Let us know if you have any feedback. We can adjust frequency, and if you want to opt out, you can do so any time by leaving the #lunch-buds channel.
Slack is (surprise!) another great way to announce your new Slack bot, and we've seen good signup rates by using this method. Here are a few ideas for posts in #general (or your equivalent):
