How Points for Intros Work
Donut Points recognize participation in activities that strengthen team connection, like completing introductions or giving and receiving Shoutouts.
When teammates complete a Donut Intros meeting, they automatically earn points. Those points appear on their My Points, found under their Donut Profile in the dashboard, and can later be redeemed for rewards or gift cards if the Rewards Store is enabled.
By default, all Intros channels are eligible to award points. Admins can edit the number of points each channel grants, or turn points off entirely for specific channels.
Accessing Automatic Points Settings
Log in to the Donut dashboard.
In the left sidebar, go to Shoutouts & Points → Automatic Points under Admin tools.
From this page, you can view and edit how points are awarded.
Managing Points for Donut Intros
Under Donut Intros, you can control how teammates earn points for participating in introductions.
Use the toggle to enable or disable automatic points for Donut Intros across your workspace.
Donut’s default message to participants says:
“Here is 1 🍩 as a token of appreciation for attending your Donut Intro and connecting with your team! 🍩’s can be redeemed in the rewards store.”The default value is 1 point per completed Intro, but admins can change this amount for each channel. Note: the exchange rate for gift cards is 1 Point = 10¢.
Each Intros channel is listed with:
Channel – the Slack channel where the Intro program runs
Points on completion – how many points participants earn
Enable points – toggle to turn the feature on or off per channel
You can also manage Intro Points directly from each channel’s settings page. Go to the channel where your Intro runs, open the Engagement tab, and toggle Points on or off there.
Changes made here stay in sync with the settings under Automatic Points in Admin Tools.
Store Settings
Points earned from Intros can be redeemed in the Rewards Store, which is enabled by default with the default Tiny Dinosaur badge reward. You can customize the store anytime by enabling automatic gift cards and adding custom rewards.
Go to Shoutouts & Points → Store settings.
If your store is disabled, you’ll see a red banner that says:
“Your reward store is disabled. Please enable it to allow your teammates to redeem their reward points.”
Click "Enable reward store" to turn it on.When enabled, teammates will see the Rewards Store tab in their sidebar.
Turning it off hides the store from participants but keeps it visible to admins.
Donut includes a Tiny Dinosaur badge reward by default for all teams.
This reward is always visible and redeemable, even if you haven’t configured other rewards. You can edit or remove it anytime under Active manual rewards.
There is also an option to toggle on Automatic gift cards, which allow users to redeem points for global gift card options. Gift cards are available for teams on Standard or Premium plans. If you’re on the Free plan, you’ll see an upgrade prompt when trying to enable this feature.
Use the Reward Library section to create or customize additional rewards (monetary or not).
Permissions and Access
On paid plans admins can control who manages Points, Shoutouts, and Rewards settings through the Permissions tab.
Go to Shoutouts & Points → Permissions.
The list shows your Account Owner(s) and Account Admin(s), plus any teammates added as Shoutouts & Points Admins.
Shoutouts & Points Admins can:
Manage all Points and Shoutouts settings.
Enable or disable Points for Intros.
Adjust reward settings, including automated gift card rewards.
To add someone, start typing their name in the search field.
To remove an admin, click the ✕ next to their name.
Note: Free teams don’t have Admin roles, so anyone in the workspace can manage Points and rewards.
Billing and Active Users
For channels with Points for Intros enabled, teammates become active users once they earn points from completing an Intro. They remain active even if they later snooze, exclude themselves, or are ghostbusted.
