Understanding Active Users and Billing in Donut

Donut bills by the number of active users. Learn who’s included and how that impacts your bill.

What is an active user

Your Donut bill is based on active users. An active user is anyone who participates in Donut programs your team uses, like Intros, Watercooler, Celebrations, Journeys, or Shoutouts.

Each person counts only once per workspace, even if they’re part of multiple programs.

How active users are counted

Donut monitors active user counts daily. If your count increases or decreases mid-cycle, you may see prorated charges or credits.

You can view your team’s active user count (and next payment estimate) in real-time on the Billing page.

Intros

Anyone eligible to receive Intros (not snoozed, excluded or ghostbusted).

Starting Oct 27, 2025, anyone who has earned Points for Intros remains billable.

Watercooler

Anyone who is a member of a Watercooler Slack channel.

Celebrations

Anyone who is a member of a Celebrations Slack channel.

Journeys

Anyone scheduled to receive content through a Donut Journey.

Shoutouts

Anyone who has given or received a Shoutout.

Points

Anyone who has received Donut Points through Intros or Shoutouts.

How Points affect billing

Starting October 27, 2025, anyone with an active Points balance earned through Intros is considered a billable user while Points remain enabled in your workspace. This includes currently inactive (ghostbusted), snoozed, or excluded users who have an active points balance from Donut Intros activity occurring after October 26th, 2025.

  • To remove specific inactive, snoozed, or excluded individuals from billing, contact Donut Support to request that their Points balances be restored to zero.

  • To turn off Points for Intros for your entire team, toggle off the setting in your dashboard.

  • To reset all active Points balances on your team to zero, reach out to Donut Support.

Note: Turning off Automatic Points does not remove someone from billing if they’re still active in an Intros channel or in other Donut programs. Users who remain active in Intros, Watercooler, Celebrations, Journeys, or Shoutouts will continue to be billable.

  • 1–24 participants: $59/month

  • 25–49 participants: $119/month

  • 50–99 participants: $239/month

  • 100–199 participants: $479/month

  • +$240 for each additional 100 participants

Billed Monthly

  • 1–24 participants: $74/month

  • 25–49 participants: $149/month

  • 50–99 participants: $299/month

  • 100–199 participants: $599/month

  • +$300 for each additional 100 participants

Premium Plan

Includes: all Standard features plus Shoutouts.

Billing is based on the number of active users.

Billed Annually

  • 1–24 participants: $99/month

  • 25–49 participants: $199/month

  • 50–99 participants: $399/month

  • 100–199 participants: $799/month

  • +$400 for each additional 100 participants

Billed Monthly

  • 1–24 participants: $119/month

  • +$480 for each additional 100 participants
